Climate change and the human perspective: a risky gap between science and policy

The latest IPCC reports include i.a. the Fifth Assessment Report and the “Global Warming 1.5°C” Special report. These reports summarize the state of scientific knowledge on climate change and provide options for keeping climate change under 2°C. All options require strong policies and a world-wide behavioural change. It is possible. However, the policies agreed to date, both at the global and at most national levels, do not suffice to face these global challenges. This presentation will discuss two questions:
- how big is the gap?
- what does that mean in terms of increasing vulnerability to climate change and jeopardizing several SDGs?
